Description Cercis canadensis 'Merlot' is a compact, deciduous tree with dark purple foliage and an upright, dense, vase-shaped habit. Autumn provides a stunning display of reds, oranges and yellows. It has a tighter, denser habit than Cercis ‘Forest Pansy’ and the leaves of ‘Merlot’ are smaller, thicker, and glossier. This is a Flemings variety.

Uses With a distinctive leaf shape and colour, this tree adds interest to the landscape design and makes for a knock-out feature tree in a small garden.    
Position & Soil Good tolerance to drought and heat once established but generally Cercis won't like prolonged periods of drought, or periods of wet. Best in deep, well-drained fertile soils. Avoid hot and windy sites.
