Doyenne du Comice Fruiting Pear This French Pear variety originates from the 1850's, and produces medium to large fruit with greenish yellow skin and an orange cheek when ripe. Medium to large fruit, it is considered a late-maturing pear. It is not self-fertile so needs two or more other varieties for the best cropping. This is a popular pear variety, useful for eating, preserving and cooking. Pears produce best in full sun, though they can also tolerate partial sun. They prefer light, rich soils with good drainage but will tolerate heavier, clay-rich soils. |
