Grey Box, Western Grey Box This is a bigger tree growing to 25m tall, with narrow dull-green foliage. It has a grey trunk with whitish patches and fibrous-flaky bark that sheds in short ribbons. The name microcarpa comes from Greek 'micros' meaning small, and 'carpos' meaning fruit, referring to the small fruit it produces. As a bigger tree, it is mostly found in the plains and grassy woodlands of the south-eastern parts of Australia. Provides an excellent habitat for wildlife. Is tolerant of hot summer conditions and elevated positions and in brown loams or heavier alluvial soils as well as on shallower soils in hill country. |
