Tree Acer davidii 'subsp. davidii' Père David's Maple, Snakebark Maple
Description This is a small ornamental deciduous tree growing to approximately 9m tall with a spreading crown of long, arching branches. The bark is smooth, olive-green with regular narrow pale vertical ridges on young trees. Leaves are dark green above, paler below, and turn to bright yellow, orange or red in autumn. Leaves hold well on branches, especially in cooler areas. Flowers are small and yellowish-cream in colour and hang in a pendulous fashion from the tree.

Uses This is a lovely ornamental tree for use in sheltered parks and gardens.
Position & Soil This tree prefers a full sun or part shade position in a humus rich soil. Frost hardy.
