Our guide to Crepe Myrtle

Lagerstroemia is one of the best all-round performers you could plant in the landscape. And it offers something special in every season making it attractive year-round. What makes each of them highly regarded is their prolific and intense flowering.

Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei 'Biloxi'

Crepe Myrtle (pink)

This tree is best for its beautiful pink flowers which have a crinkle-like effect and are borne in clusters in late summer. The leaves are dark green but turn orange before shedding in late-autumn. We grow this tree with a single trunk. This tree is a larger-growing variety than the closest pink variety - 'Sioux'

Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei 'Lipan'

Crepe Myrtle (lavender-mauve)

This tree has spectacular mauve-lavender flowers borne in clusters in late summer. It has a beautiful compact growth habit with dark green leaves changing to yellow and orange before falling in late Autumn.

Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei 'Natchez'

Crepe Myrtle (white)

This small, deciduous tree creates great interest throughout the year. In summer, clusters of spectacular white, crepe-paper like flowers are produced. Following this, the dark green leaves add further interest as they transition into autumn, turning a rich bronze-red colour before falling. Bark also provides colour as the tree matures, with its flakiness revealing the rich, brown underbark.

Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei 'Sioux'

Crepe Myrtle (musk pink)

Creating quite the visual impact over a lengthy period, this variety has a great trunk and offers masses of intense, musk-pink flowers over summer, followed by stunning, rich foliage colour in tones of yellow, red and orange through autumn, before shedding its leaves. When mature, the bark of this variety will peel, creating a mottled effect to reveal the beautiful caramel-pink colour of its underbark.

Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei 'Tuscarora'

Crepe Myrtle (hot pink)

This deciduous tree has small oval shaped green leaves which turn a stunning reddish/orange in autumn. The most striking part of the tree is the beautiful display of vibrant, hot pink, crinkled flowers which appear in late summer. Flowers form on new growth, and so are encouraged by winter pruning. Bark peels off to reveal a smooth trunk which is beige in colour with red-brown streaks.

Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei 'Zuni'

Crepe Myrtle (purple)

This variety can be used as a shrub or small tree. Foliage has red tinges when young and matures to a shiny dark green, with autumn foliage providing a colourful display of orange, red and maroon. Stunningly beautiful and free-flowering, masses of violet-purple flowers appear from summer through to autumn. Bark provides further interest as it peels, creating a mottled effect on the trunk. We grow this tree with a single trunk.
