Lime Green Foliage Selections

To the designer, foliage colour is just as an important consideration as the form of the tree and its function in the landscape. Lime green is an eye-catching selection for a fresh burst of colour.

Think about all the variations of green in nature and the emotions that colour evokes. Almost always it is considered calming and tranquil, natural, safe and harmonious.  Green is the most balanced of colours making it a stable influence on us. Seldom would we feel anything other than relaxed and refreshed in a green environment regardless of its shade.

But there are many shades of green and these can vary in intensity. For the designer, foliage colour is just as an important consideration as the form of the tree and its function in the landscape.

Lime Green

Let’s start with the most intensive of greens - Lime green. It is a shade that can promote feelings of energy and creativity depending on its level of brightness. These trees create a visual focus and team well with blue and indigo. For contrast, plant alongside fuchsia or purple-reds.

A beautiful, deciduous tree with a broad, open, spreading canopy and soft, weeping, hanging, pendulous branches. Young foliage, bipinnate leaves, start off a bright yellow colour and ripens to lime green. In winter, large black seed pods hang from the branches. It is a popular tree due to its vibrant colour and overall graceful appearance. This is a thornless variety of Gleditsia. 30cm/14L 40cm/27L 50cm/52L 100L
This attractive deciduous tree provides soft filtered shade with its open habit and pinnate leaf shape. It is a moderate grower with striking lime green foliage which intensifies into a vibrant, golden colour in autumn. Long white, pea-like flowers are fragrant and appear in early summer, followed by smooth brown seed pods. Suitable for hot dry climates and coastal conditions, however it does need shelter from strong winds as the branches may tend towards being brittle. 50cm/52L 150L
A medium-sized deciduous tree which has a vase shape when young, but develops into a tree with a more rounded canopy as it matures. This fast-growing elm is wide spreading, becoming wider than it is tall with age. It has golden foliage and provides good shade for those summer days. Leaves are bright green which may vary in intensity depending on position and exposure to sunlight. In autumn, the foliage puts on a show, turning a brilliant yellow before falling. 40cm/27L 50cm/52L 100L 150L
This is a beautiful very large tree with large leaves that have a lovely shape and smooth soft texture. It has striking orange-yellowish flowers decorated with flecks of green in spring. The flowers are solitary and sit in the extreme upper-most branches, resembling tulips, hence the common-name reference to the tulip tree. 40cm/27L
A dwarf variety of the regular native Willow Myrtle. This is a small elegant looking tree that offers striking lemon-yellow weeping foliage changing to lime-green as it ages. It makes a lovely screen, street or feature tree - great for colour contrast in a landscape. Is tolerant of coastal conditions.
